Joe Hodler

I help clients develop and protect intellectual property, and structure the legal frameworks that support collaboration, licensing, and commercialization. I have worked with startups, multinational companies, industrial designers, artists, and academic institutions on building, managing, and licensing intellectual property portfolios, with a focus on software, interactive systems, and industrial design.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Georgia Tech. Before practicing law, I worked as an engineer and software developer, building simulation models for a nationwide transportation network. I earned my law degree from the University of Minnesota and completed additional legal studies at Renmin University in Beijing, focusing on direct foreign investment.

I was admitted to practice in New York since 2007, and worked in corporate litigation for Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and Sidley Austin. I became a USPTO registered patent attorney in 2011, and have subsequently focused exclusively on intellectual property.
